Certified Board Member Program - Requirements

A minimum of 96 points of instruction (1 point  = 1 hour) is required to receive the CBM distinction, 38 of which must be earned through prescribed training offered by FSBA in the curricular areas of Boardsmanship, School Finance, Policy Governance, and Personnel and Bargaining Issues. Points for other curricular areas must be earned as specified below, with 3 points relating to multicultural/diversity issues (applicable in any area):

12 points for completion of the FSBA Boardsmanship training module
12 points for completion of the FSBA School Finance training module
  7 points for completion of the FSBA Policy Governance training module
  7 points for completion of the FSBA Personnel and Bargaining Issues training module
12 points in Curriculum and Instruction
12 points in State/Federal Legislative and Administrative Processes
12 points in School Law
  8 points in Planning Overview
  6 points in Communications/Public Relations
  3 points in Community and Family Involvement
  3 points in Current Trends and Issues
  2 points Elective (any curricular area).

The CBM Program is designed for individual school board members.

Participation in the program is voluntary, but highly recommended.
